If I am being honest with myself I’ll admit I absolutely loath english literature classes. I really only signed up for this class because i thought it would look good on a college application.
However, the first week of being an AP Lit student is coming to a close, and I am pleasantly surprised I am enjoying this class. It may only be the first week, but I have already learned multiple things from this class that'll help me in future classes. For example, I learned that an individual's reading speed doesn’t determine if they are a good reader or not. I have always criticized myself for being a slow reader, and even went as far to consider myself an idiot. Knowing that the speed of my reading will not affect my chances of getting a good grade in this class causes me to feel at ease with myself for once about my proficiency in reading.
This week I also learned different books have different reading speeds. For example, my reading speed for the book I choose for my author study is 72 pages. While my reading speed for the novel I am reading at home is 170. I always assumed that reading speeds were the same no matter what genre of book I was reading. This week had taught me that reading speeds vary from book to book, and genre to genre.
It's always hard for me to adjust to school life after doing the absolute dare minimum over summer break. I am very appreciative that this is class is easing students back into a school schedule, and not bombarding us with homework in the first week. So far I am enjoying this class!
Speed doesnt matter while reading, and either does this IQ test. However, you can do it for kicks and giggles!
