This school week was only four days long because of election day last Tuesday. Even though the week was shorter than normal, I was still able to learn in my AP Literature class. In class I learned how to revise Poem of the Week Essays (PoW Essay) so they will be good for the AP Literature exam this May.
As a way to revise our papers every student shared their paper with a partner who would then revise and give the author suggestions. I shared my PoW Essay with Tim Wilson this week. He gave me very good suggestions such as summarizing the poems plot in the first paragraph and include the essays thesis statement at the end of the summary. Tim also advised me to explain in depth the facts I talked about in my essay instead of merely dropping them in. He also pointed out the me grammar errors and helped me learn when to use possessive apostrophes.
While I read over Tim’s essay, I again remembered the importance of referring to the essays plot throughout the poem. For example, if I were to state a quote from the third stanza of a poem, It would be helpful for readers to know the context leading up to the quote. I have a habit while writing these essays to skip right to the facts and then not explain the facts afterwards. Rather than explaining the facts afterwards I tend to state another piece of evidence in hopes that this evidence will explain the other.
Despite this week being different than normal, I was still able to learn a lot!
